"Capt. Trey was very professional and accommodating. In the midst of questionable weather and windy conditions we had a window of opportunity that we took advantage of and had a great time. Not as much time on the water due to weather but we had a memorable time. I encourage anybody to take a trip with him. He's building a really great charter service geared towards his customers." - Clinton

Greater Amberjack: These bruisers are the heavyweight champs of the Gulf. Known as "reef donkeys" for good reason, amberjack will test your strength and endurance. They love to hang around oil rigs and reefs, often in schools. When you hook one, hold on tight - their initial run is explosive, and they don't give up easily. The best time to target these powerhouses is typically from May to July and again in the fall. Anglers love the challenge and the potential for some serious fish tacos.
Cobia: Also called ling or lemonfish, cobia are the curious wanderers of the Gulf. These sleek, powerful fish often swim near the surface and can be spotted around buoys, weedlines, or even following large rays. They're known for their aggressive strikes and acrobatic fights. Cobia season usually kicks off in spring and runs through summer. The thrill of sight-casting to a big cobia is hard to beat, and their firm, white flesh makes for excellent eating.
Yellowfin Tuna: The speedsters of the deep, yellowfin tuna are the holy grail for many offshore anglers. These torpedo-shaped fish can grow to massive sizes and are known for their blistering runs and deep dives. We target them year-round, but the action really heats up in the summer months. Whether we're chunking, trolling, or working the shrimp boats, hooking into a yellowfin is an experience you won't forget. And let's not forget - it's some of the best sashimi you'll ever taste.
Red Snapper: These crimson beauties are the poster child of Gulf bottom fishing. With their strong pulls and delicious white meat, red snapper are always a welcome sight. We fish for them around reefs and structure, often using live bait or cut bait. The season is tightly regulated, usually opening in the summer months. When it's on, the action can be fast and furious. There's nothing like pulling up a big red snapper from the depths - it's a real rush!
Scamp Grouper: Don't let their smaller size fool you - scamp grouper are pound-for-pound some of the tastiest fish in the Gulf. These bottom dwellers love rocky reefs and ledges. We target them year-round, but they tend to move to deeper waters in the winter. Scamp put up a great fight, especially on lighter tackle. When you get one to the boat, you're in for a real treat - their sweet, flaky meat is considered by many to be the best of all the groupers.
Look, if you're after a world-class offshore fishing experience, this Grand Isle trip is hard to beat. You've got the chance to tangle with some serious game fish, learn from experienced pros, and make memories that'll last a lifetime. Cobia are one of the most exciting fish to catch in our waters. These powerful swimmers can reach 6 feet and 100 pounds, though 30-50 pounders are more common. Look for them near buoys, wrecks, and floating debris from spring through fall. Cobia are often mistaken for sharks due to their sleek, dark bodies. They're curious fish and will investigate boats, so keep an eye out for them on the surface. Cobia put up an incredible fight, making long runs and even jumping occasionally. Their firm, white meat is outstanding on the grill too. To land one, try sight fishing with live eels or large jigs. Cast well ahead of the fish and retrieve quickly to trigger a strike. Be ready for explosive runs - these bruisers will test your gear and stamina.
Greater Amberjack are hard-fighting fish that'll test your strength. These bruisers can reach 6 feet and 100 pounds, though most are in the 30-50 pound range. Look for them around reefs, wrecks, and oil rigs in 60-240 feet of water. They're here year-round but bite best in spring and fall. Amberjacks put up a heck of a fight, often making powerful runs back to structure. Their firm, white meat is excellent eating too. To land one, use heavy tackle with 50+ pound test line. Drop a live bait or large jig near structure and hold on tight. When you feel the thump, reel fast and pull hard to keep them away from snags. Be ready for an arm-burning battle - these fish don't give up easy.
Red snapper are the Gulf's most iconic fish - and for good reason. These crimson beauties average 5-15 pounds but can reach 30+. You'll find them around reefs and wrecks in 60-300 feet of water. They're here year-round, but the bite is best in summer. Snapper fishing is all about finding structure and getting baits down deep. These fish put up a decent fight, but the real thrill is in the eating. Their sweet, flaky white meat is hard to beat. To land some snappers, use heavy bottom rigs with circle hooks. Squid and cut bait work well, but live pinfish are snapper candy. A local trick is to use a fish finder rig - it keeps your bait off the bottom and visible to hungry snappers. When you feel the thump, reel fast to set the hook before they dive for cover.
Scamp grouper are prized for their excellent table fare. These brown-mottled fish average 5-15 pounds but can reach 30+. You'll find them near rocky bottoms and reefs in 100-300 feet of water. They're here year-round, but fishing is best in spring and fall. Scamp put up a stubborn fight, using their broad tails to dive for cover. Their white, flaky meat is considered some of the best in the grouper family. To catch scamp, use heavy bottom rigs with live bait or large jigs. Pinfish and squid are top choices. A local trick is to use a long fluorocarbon leader - it helps prevent break-offs on sharp reef edges. When you hook one, reel fast and steady to keep them from ducking into a hole. It's a battle of strength, but the reward is a tasty dinner.
Yellowfin tuna are the prize catch for many offshore anglers. These torpedo-shaped speedsters can top 200 pounds, though 40-80 pounders are more common. We find them in the open Gulf, often around floating debris or following shrimp boats. Spring and fall are prime seasons, but they're here year-round. Yellowfin are known for blistering runs and acrobatic jumps - hooking one is like tying into a freight train. Their deep red meat is prized for sashimi and grilling. To land a yellowfin, troll with spreader bars or pitch live baits to feeding schools. When you hook up, be ready for a long, tiring fight. These fish have incredible stamina. A local trick is to use fluorocarbon leaders - the clear material helps fool wary tuna in our clear Gulf waters.
